A couple of good news...

Today I've made a few small changes in the layout... everything else seems to be working and all the hours I've put on this have made me tired of blogging right now.. but I would like to mention a couple of things. The first one is the announcement from last Thursday, when IRA called upon its organisation to end the violence that have been going on for decades and taken many innocent lifes. That was a really historical mark in the Irish and British history. I truly hope all the followers of IRA will uphold what was stated in the speach by Gerry Adams. They will now continue the fight with peaceful methods towards political and democratic development.

The other news I would like to mention too, is more of a trivial kind and it's that the Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy will finally be at the cinemas in Sweden. For how long haven't I been waiting.. it felt like three million years, but it's more like three months. The first showing is on Wednesday, I will though not be able to go until I get back in mid August. I liked the book and I think I will like the movie also.. even though Nadia's brother thought it wasn't that good, when he saw it in Boston. Otherwise we have had a nice week.. a little bit strange weather, but I'm not complaining.. will be some heat in the coming week. A great Late Night with Conan O'Brien week with new episodes. In next week it's scheduled for reruns, but a few of those are funny ones and worth tuning in again.

Finally done...

Peeewh, I'm finally done with the new look for my blog.. there is just a few more changes left to do. It took lots of work, which I actually didn't have time for.. but I just couldn't stop until I had finished the main templet. I don't have the strength to write anything of value right now, so I will go offline and wait for Late Night to air... after that it will be bedtime, I'm so tired.

Assault and battery of Marcus...

Three men have been found not guilty of the murder of Marcus Gabrielsen at the beginning of May.One, aged 18, was found guilty of serious assault and sentenced to a year in prison, while a 19 year old, who was found to have assaulted Marcus Gabrielsen's friend, was given a suspended sentence. A third was cleared of all charges. The prosecutor argued that they should be found guilty of murder or of causing another person's death, and given sentences of between six and eight years. But the case was undermined by a lack of technical evidence and by the fact that several witnesses changed their stories during the trial, or simply "forgot" what had happened. Marcus Gabrielsen and a friend are said to have been chased after asking one of the attackers not to urinate in a doorway on the street. They ran from one side of the street to the other, where Gabrielsen was either brought to the ground or fell, hitting his head on a concrete wall. Witnesses told police that they saw several men kicking and hitting Gabrielsen as he lay on the ground.

Despite the fact there were many people on Kungsgatan at the time, nobody came to Gabrielsen's aid and he was left unconcious. He died in hospital two days later. The 18 year old admitted kicking Marcus in the stomach but denied targeting his head. There was no forensic evidence linking him to the attack. Evidence from 16 witnesses was heard by the court but several gave substantially different accounts to what they had said to police at the time. During police interviews a young woman told how she had heard one of the defendents say how he had "kicked and jumped on a guy's head". But in the trial she said she no longer remembered this. The lawyer defending the 18 year old, told the news that the fact that the witnesses changed their story would have significantly weakened the prosecutor's case. "It made no difference for my client, since he admitted," he said. "But for the others it could have played a part."

I think this is just terrible. Nobody helped Marcus that night, and then everybody got amnesia and could only remember what had happened before and after, but not the 'kicking' part. I knew that Sweden had a reputation as a cowardly country, but this seems to show it is a cowardly people as well. There is no excuse for what happened, those three prosecuted should be sent to prison for what they did and not walking out of the court house like they haven't taken someones life. I really can't believe that people stood by, that night, as someone was killed.. It scares me to know that I might not get aid from anyone if I would get attacked.

Marcus had courage to stand up that night and tell those 'killers' to stop doing something he believed was wrong. He is gone forever, but I hope this will be a wake up call for Sweden and it's people that we are on the wrong path if we allow something like this to happen, 'cause it could as easily had happened to anyone of us. Also, I think the legal system in such cases like this one showes how insufficient it works. In my mind there is no doubt that those three guys took part, one or another way, in the killing of Marcus.

'Shoutbox' is up...

I'm back home again.. after a couple of days away. I had a lovely stay at my friends place. On the train back I started to write down a few lines about the article on Marcus Gabrielsen, which I will post later on today if I got time. I've also started working on a new template for my blog. I'm not very good at html, Java Script, CSS and things like that.. but I got some starting help by my friend Linn's husband Martin. Really nice of him.. hope I will make something out of it, but it will take a while longer before I'm finished. A new thing here is the 'shoutbox'.. working as a tagboard, so have fun with that. I want to thank you all for visiting/reading my blog and those who have signed my guestbook or left a comment.. it made me very happy, big thanxs!

Raining...

I'm leaving in a few minutes.. catching a train to my friend Linn and her husband Martin. Will be visiting them for a couple of days. I haven't seen them since they moved to another town about 3,5 months ago. It will be nice to see how they are doing and their new apartment. They finished recently repapering the living-room. Got to find my umbrella.. the rain is pouring down and I have to go to the station now. Not that I don't like the rain.. everything gets so fresh afterwards, you can both see and above all, feel it when you take a breath of air. It's like the nature is cleansing itself with the rain.

Funny Late Night clip...

It has been a while since I posted something funny.. I need to mix serious matters with laughters, otherwise life would be to depressing. So, here is an old Late Night sketch about Seinfield ending and they are trying to find someone to replace him. It's really hilarious if I might say so and the clip is hosted at iFilm. Check out that site for more fun stuff to look at and also if you would like to see more Late Night clips.. pay a visit to NBC's screening room...

I've noticed my blog takes time to load in the browser due to the Late Night clip in this entry. So, I'll be removing it soon and put it up somewhere else and link it from here instead. Also, I was wrong.. this clip is not hosted by iFilm, but that site is worth paying a visit to anyway.

The link to the Seinfield clip is up now.. click on the picture and it will take you there!

Sudoku solution...

I'm just on my way out to meet Sara for a stroll and perhaps an ice-cream in the park. We seems to have a lovely weather today, so it will be nice to get outdoors for a while after being cooped up all morning.. trying to get some study done. I've also been searching for cheap bus and train tickets to Gothenburg.. because I don't have to much money to spend on the trip and it would be funnier to travel together with someone else. Will later on contact both Anna and Emma.. all four of us are joining the gathering and it would be nice to have their company during the ride up too. Yesterday I forgot to post the sudoku solution for those who have tried to solve it but haven't succeeded.. click here. I wish all my visitors a nice weekend!

Todays news: Sky News reported around lunchtime that a man was shot by police in London, and died. The man was under suspicion of collaborating with the tube attacks. The police have closed in on a house and told people in that area to stay indoors.

A multicultural world...

I came home recently after several hours at Mondo.. sipping cappuccino and chatting with my friend Susanne. Much to talk about since last time we saw each other. Also, there have been happening pretty much the past weeks around the world, to discuss and reflect upon. It's always so good to see Susanne and have our discussions on various topics. Of course we talked about the terrorist attack in London.. she has lived there and got many friends over there to worry about. As I went online now.. I saw there have been another bomb explosion in London, but not in the same range as the last ones. When will this madness end..? I just can't believe why people have to kill other people because of different beliefs. I don't mind at all that there exist all kinds of religions.. as long as they don't hurt anybody. I welcome different opinions and people with different ethnic backgrounds.. because I believe in a multicultural world. Why is it so hard for some people to coexist and accept differences..? Sharing experiences, culture and so forth should be looked upon as something good.. without feeling that ones own choice of lifestyle or religion is threaten in anyway.

Hanging around at home...

Big Bad E, have you been lurking around here..? You sweetie.. I saw your comment. I haven't seen or heard from you for a long time, hope you're doing well. Also, don't tell me to spend more time at the forum, you are hardly ever there yourself.. at least not what I've noticed. I've missed reading your feisty posts. Hope you are doing better at the work hunting thing than I do. Spent several hours at the employment center yesterday and also writing a couple of job applications.. I'm still out of work unfortunately, so the trip up to Gothenburg in late august may be in danger zone.

Today I will spend most time at home working on my finale essay and in between running up and down to the laundry room in the basement washing my laundry and probably doing some other household cleaning too. Will also have MSN on for a while today.. to see if I can catch up with my friend Helena. I feel bad that I've been neglecting her for so long now. Really got to make that up somehow. Tomorrow I have scheduled to meet Susanne at our regular café Mondo, which I look forward to.. because I want to discuss a legal subject with her, among other things. I'm writing on an article about the assault and battery against Marcus Gabrielsen that caused his death a few days later on at the hospital. It's a very interesting case and yesterday the three accused were released awaiting the verdict on Monday. It doesn't looks like they will be convicted for murder due to lack of technical evidence.. even though the odds are they committed the crime.

Emily is still doing a lot of destruction everywhere it's ravaging. Many people are loosing their homes and foremost it's the already poor ones that suffer the most. The world must appear very unfair, when something like this hit them and make their life situation even more difficult to cope with.

Natural disasters...

There have been much talk about hurricanes.. first Dennis and then Emily, making a big mess and ruin a lot in it's path. And now a giant typhoon Haitang (named after a chinese flower) is heading for Fujian and Zhejiang, China.. causing a mass evacuation of 850 000 people. 17 000 fishing boats and merchant vessels have been ordered to put into port. Also several airports have been closed awaiting the storm, that made such destruction in south Taipei, to strike. Reading the latest about Emily striking the peninsula Yucatán, Mexico makes me think even more about how we treat our planet. It will not last forever if we keep treating it as bad as we are doing everyday and the rapid process of change is really disturbing. We have a responsibility to take care of the planet and not just use it like we don't care about the future. I'm relieved that Emily didn't go up north 'cause it would most likely have thrown the oil rig 'Thunder horse' into the Gulf of Mexico completely and that would have been a huge disaster for the nature if that had happened.

I think we humans have something to do with the increasing numbers of natural disasters. Sure there are still things humans can't control yet, but we do have a giant thumb in it as it is already. For instance, this summer it has been an explosion of algal bloom on the east coast.. and it's making people sick if they take a swim in the water. All eutrophication and 'shit' we been pooring right out have destroyed the Baltic Sea, and I do believe it will never recuperate from what we have done to it. It's not strange I feel very worried about the future and in some moments I think it doesn't matter if the world would end in one way or another, because there are so much we probably won't be able to change or 'repair'.. like the ozonosphere. It's thinner than ever and more people get skin cancer.. and not just that. There are diseases we don't know enough about and therefore can't find a cure. On one hand scientist are seeking contributions from private persons and grants from the goverment and on the other hand there are countries spending millions of $ to make biochemical weapons.. it's madness and I don't want the world to be like this.

All other love is like the moon,
Which grows and shrinks like flower on plain;
Like bud that blooms and withers soon;
Like passing day that ends in rain.

All other love begins in bliss,
And ends in tears and suffering:
No love can salve us all but this,
The love that rests in heaven's King.

For ever green, renewed again,
For ever full, it never pales.

It ever sweetens, free from pain,
Continues always, never fails.

The Kindness alone
To any poor brother
Is done to yourself
More than another,

If a beggar stand
Like a hungry waiter,
Put in his hand
Your need's the greater.
